Annual Meeting: logistics III

Last couple of useful informational points:

Airport Pickup and transportation to Indigo Hotel
Pick-up and transportation has been coordinated. You should expect to see either your name on a sign or "Cap-Net" since a couple of you arrive at the same time and will be going as a group to the Hotel.

Local hosts and contacts
Our names and phone numbers, country code: 506
Laura Valenciano: 8737 1159
Lilliana Arrieta: 8827 4514
José Daniel Córdoba: 8875 9046

Currency
The currency here is the Colón, 504Colones/1USD more or less.
We discourage the currency exchange at the airport since their rates are very unfriendly. It's common that taxi drivers and restaurants receive dollars anyways, especially in tourist areas.

Partners
Your accomodations have also been reserved by us at the hotels, they are under your names. We need your confirmation of arrival and in case you are coming back to San José after the Partner Meeting and staying here, we will also arrange your transportation from Los Sueños back to Indigo if you would like it so. Indigo Hotel agreed to facilitate local transportation to your meeting downtown during those days, so let us know in order to coordinate.

Annual Meeting: logistics II

Cap-Net's Annual Meeting and 10yr anniversary celebration is coming up and we are wrapping up with logistic details, getting ready to host you.

Some more practical information for you before your trip:

Weather and temperature
Costa Rica is a country close to the equator, of tropical climate. The locals like to say there are two main seasons here rainy and rainier, luckily for us the meeting will take place in the Pacific Coast, a dryer and warmer area.
Nonetheless weather here is kind of a gamble so you should still prepare for light rain in the afternoons.

Anniversary dinner celebration
On Tuesday November 13, you will be treated to Cap-Net's 10 year anniversary dinner. We will go to a special spot to enjoy the sunset and be a part of a nice dinner.
*we have gotten few replies as to dietary restrictions and allergies, help us help you and fill us in in any necessary info.

Thursday Field Trip
If you are coming for the Annual Meeting and will still be with us on Thursday you will come with us on a field trip to an island nearby where we will get a first approach of climate change manifestations on small islands. We will also get the chance to hike and relax on the beach. For this field trip we recommend light clothes, a hat, sunblock and comfortable shoes. You might also want to bring a bathing suit and beach appropriate clothes this day since there will be some free time.

Power outlets
I am attaching a picture of A/B power outlets used here so that you come prepared.

Annual Meeting: Logistic Requirements I

There are a few details that we need to cover with you before your arrival:

Traveling and visas

Since we are working with the UN office in Costa Rica in order to coordinate your entry into our country we need you to send us a color copy of the main page/pages of your passport. This will also be of great help for us when getting the travel taxes for you and for the team of drivers that will be picking you up at the airport.
We have written before on here the list of countries that require a visa in order to enter Costa Rica. You will find the list of exceptions to this requirement uploaded as well. In case you still need help from us, your local hosts, please let us know by replying this email.

Medical information

In order to be prepared for you we need to know if any of you might require any special assistance, for example: special conditioned room or vehicles.
Please take into consideration that if you come from a country where malaria and yellow fever are active, you must be able to present your medical card or proof that you've been dutifully vaccinated against them when entering the country.

Dietary information and allergies

We want to assure you a pleasant stay and therefore need information about any dietary restriction or allergy you might have. Please reply this email with any relevant information we might need since we will work closely with the chefs before the event in order to make sure the food served is up to your needs and spiritual beliefs.

This is the first update for logistics we will write with the hotel information soon enough.
We are looking forward to hosting you!

Annual Cap-Net Meeting and 10th year Anniversary Celebration

Republic of Costa Rica

President: Laura Chinchilla (2010)
Land area: 19,560 sq mi (50,660 sq km)
Population (2010 est.): 4,516,220 (growth rate: 1.3%)
Capital: San José
Monetary unit: Colón
Site: Los Sueños Marriott Hotel, Puntarenas.

Costa Rica is a Central American country neighboring to the north with Nicaragua and to the south with Panama. It represents around 0.25% of the planet's surface and holds 5% of the world's biodiversity. A quarter of the country's land is made up by protected areas or national parks. In recent years tourism has earned the top slot in it's economic activities, surpassing the combined exports of it's main crops.

Because of it's vicinity to the Equator the country's climate is tropical all year round. The seasons in Costa Rica are defined by the precipitation levels. The year is divided into two seasons, dry season or summer and rainy season or winter. You may come to feel that better suited names for the seasons would be rainy and rainier. Even though the meeting will take place in the warmer coastal area, you should expect and prepare for light rain during the afternoons.

Costa Rica abolished the army back in 1949 and redirected funds into education and development. It is the oldest democracy in Latin America and one of the most stable countries in the region.

¡Buen viaje querida amiga!
